In the 1980s, the mobile phone was a tool (toy) for the wealthy. These phones were expensive and the service even worse. On top of that, the service was spotty, with deadzones being the norm.
Today, billions of people across the globe have these devices. We are no longer dealing with phones, since they are basically mini computers. These are more powerful than the Nasa computers during some of their early missions.
This is one example of why standards of living keep increasing.
