My "Thank You" to @jongolson for Making Me a Co-Leader of Our Splinterlands Guild

in #alive9 days ago

I popped down to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hiroshima today between my college lectures. I was not exactly "on a mission from God" but I'd promised @jongolson I'd make a donation after he helped me out with our Splinterlands Guild.

Here's a walkin' talkin' video I made of my expedition:

About a month ago, I asked Jongo if he would make me co-leader of the Index Squad Splinterlands Guild as he is no longer active as a co-leader, and he agreed. I blogged about it here:

When I offered to make a donation to a cause of his choice, he suggested giving something to his denomination, the Seventh Day Adventist church. That came as no surprise, as anybody who knows Jongo cannot fail to be aware that he's a rather passionate member of the said church.

At first I thought I'd be able to pay by Paypal or something, but that proved difficult so I decided it might be more interesting to see if there was an Adventist church in Hiroshima, and that's when I discovered that there IS one, and it's only a few minutes' walk from my main college gig.

On a Quest for Hiroshima's 7DA Church!

As I had a gap between my morning and afternoon lectures yesterday, it seemed the ideal moment to head out on a quest for the church. I half expected it to be shut, but I was hoping to be able to wander in and hand over the loot in one fell swoop.

I strolled across a park with some statues of deer in it and spotted the church building with its cross on top. The door was open, and inside I met the pastor who spoke a bit of English.

Handed over a crisp ¥10,000 yen note (used to be worth over $100, but now only about $70), and the pastor chuckled when he heard me say that I'd been living off cup ramen for a month to save up for this!

The pastor gave me a brief tour of the church upstairs. They've got a nice setup up there, and used to have a choir, until Covid struck.

So, mission accomplished - and it was fun to track down the church and find a friendly pastor inside. Very nice chap.

The Index Squad Guild

Now I've paid my penny, I will push on and change the name of the Guild. I'm pleased to report that we now have SIX active guild members, which has boosted our winnings nicely and even got us into third place in a recent brawl.

It doesn't matter if you don't have much staked SPS or much experience, merely by participating in our brawls you would be helping us get more points, so let me know in the comments below if you'd like to join us.

And if you are a dormant member of the old Index Squad, do consider getting active again!

Not yet in Splinterlands? Join here and try it for free:

Okay, that's all for now. I'll go and grab a cup ramen.

Cheers!

That's very kind of you to do that, David! I enjoyed your adventure (😉)!

I'm curious about this idea. I've never played, and I haven't bought a spellbook yet, but I've wanted to get into Splinterlands for a while now. 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

Thanks @tydynrain - It was fun to go on that mini-quest, especially as it worked out so well, and making the video was a blast too.

What I discovered when I opened my second Splinterlands account is that very low ranking players can contribute to Guild Brawls and boost everybody's rewards - even if they lose all their battles! How? We earn points for unfilled slots. Also, some opponents "flee" and you win by default! Joining a guild is a good way to earn extra SPS and other rewards too because everybody in the team wins an equal share of their prize pot. 🤓

Absolutely, David, you're very welcome. That's great, and it definitely seemed like it.

Hrmmm....OK, that's very helpful information. Perhaps I'll look into buying a spellbook soon, and give it a go. Thanks a lot! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
