Trust no one

in SciFi Multiverseyesterday

Greetings!

One thing about life is that there's people with different characters and until you put someone in charge of something, the true color of the person might not be really known to you. No wonder there's a popular saying that says, “ power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Hmmm, this saying is nothing but the truth as the true color of a person is hard to know when he or she is nothing or saddled with responsibility.

This above introduction would lead me to the topic of the prompt. Though, I have had a series of disappointing experiences, but there's this one that I would not forget in a rush and one experience is the one I had with my cousin Mike.

Mike is one of those of my relatives I love and trust so much. In fact he's so close to me than any of my other relatives that no one can even meddle in our affairs.

So, it's for this reason that when I wanted to start my business and there's nobody to partner with, I invited Mike, who had come to me before after his ND program for help, but I told him I have nothing to help him with. But that once I have something to help him with, I would call on him.

So, when the idea of starting my palm oil business came up and I was looking for someone to trust with my investment, I called upon him just to bring him into the plan. So, with the trust I have in him, I had no doubt that he would betray me.

And as for the business, I have already put everything in place. All the logistics are in place, his own is just to take it from the villages where I have already got it with instant payment to the already made buyer whom I have also negotiated with.

So, before we embarked on the business, I gave him my rules and regulations and the sharing formula which he had agreed with. Though, I would have been the one doing it myself, but because of me still being a student, I could not afford the time to be taking it from the village to the various buyers and that's why I chose him to be my eyes in the business.

So, immediately, we had our meeting on how to carry out our operations as regard the business, we swung into action and for the first 5 months and 3 weeks, Mike really did very well as he was so honest in his dealings with me.

But not quite long, he began to change his dealings with me, telling me that those buyers didn't pay him on time, not knowing I was always in contact with them and whenever he raised that kind of excuse and some other ones, I used to be a step ahead of him.

But, there's a particular day he told me that he was robbed on his way back from where he went to deliver the goods. Immediately he called to inform me, I was so shocked that I left what I was doing to meet him. When I got there, nothing happened to him and immediately I saw that, I was relieved. But before I left, I asked him how the whole issue happened and what he told me was that he couldn't even explain. But from my short interaction with him, I perceived that he was not being truthful with his words, but instead of challenging him I kept quiet and called our parents for a meeting. It's at the meeting that he told all of us present that I have only been using him to make money. He said,

“ He has been using me to make money, while he was somewhere in school enjoying his life and I'm here working for him.” He then said, he's no longer interested in the partnership again, I asked him for my capital and he said he would only give me part of it and not all as he had been robbed of the money. I couldn't say anything as my mum was signaling to me not to talk. So, we all left the place, but I was greatly disappointed.

It's after some months I learnt he had started the same business. Though, I had already known his intention when he told me he's not partnering with me again. Everything that happened was so painful that I lost all my investments. Less I forget, he didn't pay me part of the money he promised to pay. I called him to ask for the money but he hung up. Seriously I really felt betrayed by the person whom I trusted with everything. But that's human for you.

This is my entry to the Aprilinleo prompt.

Thanks for reading.
