These days around here are special, full of joy, color, and lots of noise. Despite some rain, the local festivities always go ahead, and it's beautiful to see the streets filled with large monuments with fun figures and lots of satirical messages. That's the Fallas of Valencia. It's a very famous festival in Spain and also internationally, as visitors from all over the world come during those days. Everything is packed, many streets become pedestrianized, firecrackers are constantly being set off, and people are happy, sleeping little and eating hot chocolate with churros or fritters. Enjoy the Fallas!
But it's not just in the capital; many of the nearby towns celebrate the Fallas with the same enthusiasm, and that's why I want to share some of the ones I saw first here. I'll share here the Fallas that have won the competition in the town of Puerto de Sagunto for last, which also comes with a very peculiar and original extra.
Let's start with the most modest ones; the Fallas are organized more or less by street. Some neighborhoods and streets obviously have more money than others to spend on hiring a master fallero, who is actually a sculptor, for the design and construction. But if we look at the details, the messages, and the theme, they all deserve our attention.

Estos días por aquí son especiales, llenos de alegría, color y mucho ruido. A pesar de algunas lluvias, las fiestas locales siempre siguen adelante y es bonito ver las calles llenas de monumentos grandes con divertidas figuras y mucho mensaje satírico. Eso son las Fallas de Valencia. Es una fiesta muy famosa en España y también internacionalmente, pues vienen visitantes de todo el mundo durante esos días, todo está abarrotado, muchas calles se vuelven peatonales, se oyen petardos continuamente y la gente es feliz, durmiendo poco y comiendo chocolate con churros o buñuelos. ¡A disfrutar de las Fallas!
Pero no sólo en la capital, muchas de las poblaciones cercanas celebran con la misma ilusión las Fallas, y por eso os quiero compartir algunas de ellas que he visto primero por aquí. Dejo para el final la falla que ha ganado en la localidad de Puerto de Sagunto, que además viene con un extra muy curioso y original.
Empezamos por las más humildes, las fallas se organizan por calles más o menos. Algunos barrios y calles obviamente tienen más presupuesto que otras para gastar en la contratación de un maestro fallero, que no deja de ser un artista escultor, para el diseño y construcción. Pero si nos fijamos en los detalles, en los mensajes y en el tema, todas merecen nuestra atención.
It's also important to distinguish between two types of fallas. On each street, there will always be two fallas: the large one, which is the normal one, and a smaller one, the children's one, which is aimed at a younger audience who also loves fallas. Although, in the end, everyone also likes to see the children's fallas, because they are usually very cute.
También hay que distinguir entre dos tipos de fallas, en cada calle, siempre habrá dos fallas, la grande, que es la normal, y una más pequeña, que es la infantil, que está enfocada al público más joven que también adoran las fallas. Aunque a final a todo el mundo le gusta también ver las fallas infantiles, porque suelen ser muy "monas".

It's really a blessing that the sun came out so brightly on Saturday, as it makes these colorful monuments look even more impressive.
La verdad es que es una suerte que el sábado saliera el sol de forma brillante porque así estos coloridos monumentos lucen más impresionantes.
And now we're finally going to see the town's winning falla, the Falla Plaza Rodrigo, inspired by the theme "Samsara". It's very beautiful, as it is every year, so I'll leave you with several images from all over. Then there's the children's falla, of course, and the extra I mentioned before.

And we continue to look around, seeing more details, they are all wonderful and this year's theme is fantastic.

People really liked it; it's super cool. But this falla always surpasses itself. I've shown the ones from other years, and they're always spectacular. Now we're going to look at the children's falla, also beautiful, and it came in third, if I'm not mistaken, in this category because it's also wonderful.
A la gente le ha gustado mucho, es super chula. Pero esta falla siempre se supera, ya mostré la de otros años y son siempre espectaculares. Ahora vamos a por la falla infantil, también bonita y ha quedado tercera si no me equivoco en esta categoría porque es también estupenda.
And finally, what I was telling you. This falla also adds a third monument every year, a free one made with recycled materials, with plastic things we normally throw away. In other years, they've put together a small exhibition, like a museum with original pieces created with these materials, and this year, surprise, they've recreated "Gulliver" (from Gulliver's Travels, by Jonathan Swift) with those same materials, explaining the process on paper. It's unique and impressive.
For example, if you look closely, the decorations on Gulliver's waistcoat are made with the famous coffee capsules, forming figures, and his trousers are made from potato chip bags. It's all incredible and, above all, very original because they've recreated the famous image of Gulliver, but next to the Serrano Towers in the city of Valencia (it's in that tower that the "Cridà" takes place, an event that inaugurates the Fallas festival).
Y por último, lo que os comentaba. Esta falla además, todos los años añade un tercer monumento, es uno libre realizado con materiales reciclados, con cosas de plástico que normalmente tiramos a la basura. Otros años hicieron como una pequeña exposición, como un museo con piezas originales creadas con estos materiales, y este año, sorpresa, han recreado el "Gulliver" (de Los Viajes de Gulliver, de Jonanthan Swift) con esos mismos materiales, explicando en un papel el proceso. Es algo único e impresionante.
Por ejemplo, si os fijáis bien, las decoraciones de Gulliver de su chaleco están realizadas con las famosas cápsulas de café, haciendo figuras y los pantalones son las bolsas de patatas fritas. Todo es increíble y sobretodo muy original porque han recreado la famosa imagen de Gulliver pero al lado de las Torres de Serrano de la ciudad de Valencia (en esa torre es donde se hace la "Cridà", un acto que da por inauguradas la fiesta de las Fallas).
I wanted to show you that, if you don't like crowds, you can always go to the surrounding cities to see other beautiful fallas. We'll see if I dare to go to the major ones in Valencia...
