That was so unfortunate but sometimes we don't have to beat ourselves so much over a wrong decision, it's life, things like that are bound to occur. More over it's like a win-win in your case, you didn't lose both, atleast you're now a banker.

You can succeed anywhere in life, if you know how to plan, It doesn't matter the kind of field. I used to love carpentry too but my parents were more concerned about me going to school than to learn a skill, I feel bad over their decision though but everything happens for a reason.
