I absolutely love this ending. The fact that Jeremy is not of Earth and knows that the date is actually a number of people to be taken from the planet is awesome. I would have never thought to have Jeremy "different" or a chosen one.

Also, I love it when the squirrel tossed the inhaler to Lynn. The shock on her and Wesley's faces and the way Jeremy played it off was good. Bravo! Now, they know something is wrong, but can't put it together yet. I love that the friends thought they knew Jeremy since grade school. And Jeremy was able to keep this secret to himself all these years! Excellent. You took my lead that Jeremy was the rational one of the group.

Questions:

So the pilot of the planes hovering in the atmosphere was alerting all people at the same time like Jeremy, who had been contacted years ago, so that they know the date is near?
Are they going to take the 631,972 now or at a later date? and the only ones to go are the people over the world who didn't panic?
Well, I guess Lynn's parents and others on the block won't be chosen. They closed up shop and left; or perhaps the flames in the sky caused the gas leak.

Anyway, so many possibilities for the ending now that the "date" has been explained. But as with any good mystery, the answer begs more questions.

All chosen pilots flew at the same time on the same date.

They have room for 631,972 and they do not know if there will be time for a second trip. I guess they only have one spaceship.

Well, I guess Lynn's parents and others on the block won't be chosen. They closed up shop and left, or perhaps the flames in the sky caused the gas leak.
Lynn's parents were forced to flee their home, so they might still be chosen, it was a car accident that caused the gas leak. Jeremy did not know who would be chosen, but doing his best to keep his friends calm.

OK. Perfect. Thanks for your response. I was hoping the friends' parents would be included. I like the one idea of one spaceship to house the 631,972. They can be transformed somehow so their physical bodies don't take up room as normal human frames would.

The spaceship may even have room for animals if the squirrel understands. That would be cool. I'll leave the snakes and spiders with you.

All animals will be included, snakes and spiders too. I do not care for them either, but even if we do not know why, there is a reason they are here. The 631,972 is the number of people from Jeremy's area. Families will not be broken.
