This is my post for #freewriters 2705 prompt round hosted by @mariannewest
Since fishermen have been building pigfish traps, if building round traps, they always cut the wire that goes on the top and bottom to be round, but not my husband. About 25 years ago, he started putting a square top and bottom on a round trap.
We fold the corners over the body of the trap. Other than making it an ugly trap, it does not hurt how it catches. What it does do is add extra protection from the crabs, especially stone crabs who can break the mesh in the wire.
For me, making them round by doing this is a struggle. As a matter of fact, making the traps is a struggle for me since I have to do everything left handed, and I am right handed, so some come out looking more like an egg.
I almost got it right with this one, but it has one flat spot. It is near the corner of the box. All we need to do now is cut a hole in each one for the door and cut more wire for the door and attach them to the trap.
We are making these traps for someone else and I am afraid he will not like how they are made. I am going to tell him just because something is not good looking doesn't mean it won't catch, and then I will tell him, look at us.
