a class action lawsuit has been filed against Tesla in the USA because of manipulated odometers.
Various Tesla owners claim to have noticed that the odometer reading does not match the actual mileage. It is said to show significantly more than it should. There are also comments on Reddit that some people claim to have driven ~400 km according to the vehicle, but according to Google Maps it is only 189 km.
Another owner is said to have displayed around 72 miles (approx. 116 km) per day, although he only drove 20 miles (approx. 32 km) per day.
That would of course be an enormous difference. Overall, he claims to have a difference of at least 15% over what he had in previous years with other cars.
For the owners, this means that they are no longer covered by the warranty due to the high mileage and repairs are at their expense. Of course, this also reduces the value of the vehicles.
The reason for this is that the mileage is calculated on the basis of several factors and not, as with other vehicles, on the basis of wheel revolutions, which is also not 100% accurate, but not that inaccurate.
If it turns out that this is really the case and Tesla loses the lawsuit, Tesla will probably have to pay very high damages. This would push the share price down enormously and then there is the additional loss of image, which is currently suffering anyway.
It could quickly happen that Mr. Musk will no longer be the richest man in the world by a wide margin.
I think that's really crass and I think anyone who has thought in the last few days that the share price invites them to buy should think again.
Of course, the process will take a while, something like this doesn't usually happen within a few weeks or months.

gegen Tesla wurde eine Sammelklage wegen manipulierter Kilometerzähler in den USA eingereicht.
Diverse Tesla-Besitzer wollen festgestellt haben, dass die Kilometeranzeige nicht mit der tatsächlichen Fahrleistung übereinstimmt. Diese soll deutlich mehr anzeigen, als es sein dürfte. So gibt es auch auf Reddit Kommentare, dass manche laut dem Fahrzeug ~400 km gefahren sein sollen, lauft Google Maps es aber lediglich 189 km sind.
Bei einem anderen Besitzer soll täglich ca. 72 Meilen (ca. 116 km) angezeigt worden sein, obwohl er lediglich 20 Meilen (ca. 32 km) pro Tag unterwegs war.
Das wäre natürlich ein enormer Unterschied. Insgesamt will er einen Unterschied von mind. 15 % über dem haben, was er in den Jahren zuvor mit anderen Autos hatte.
Das bedeutet für die Besitzer, dass Sie durch die hohe Kilometerangabe aus der Garantie fallen und Reparaturen zu ihren Lasten gehen. Zudem schmälert das natürlich den Wert der Fahrzeuge.
Das soll daran liegen, dass die Kilometerzahl anhand mehrere Faktoren errechnet wird und nicht wie bei anderen Fahrzeugen anhand der Radumdrehungen, was auch nicht 100 % genau ist, aber eben nicht so ungenau.
Sollte sich herausstellen, dass es wirklich so ist und Tesla die Klage verlieren, wird vermutlich eine sehr hohe Schadenssumme auf Tesla zukommen. Das würde den Kurs der Aktie enorm nach unten drücken und dann auch noch der zusätzliche Imageverlust, der momentan eh leidet.
Da könnte es schnell passieren, dass der Herr Musk mit großem Abstand nicht mehr der reichste Mann auf der Welt sein wird.
Ich finde das schon echt krass und glaube jeder, der sich in den letzten Tagen gedacht hat, der Kurs der Aktie lädt zum Kaufen ein, sollte sich das noch mal gut überlegen.
Natürlich wird der Prozess eine Weile laufen, sowas geht ja in der Regel nicht binnen weniger Wochen oder Monate.
