Just here to spread some love and light on the hive Dumpster Diving community XP
I haven't had a lot of luck in diving recently but that's not to say I haven't found anything.
I keep an open mind for the dive and try to focus on the best times to go which in my case has been in-between dashes & deliveries(doordash).
I don't actually dive in dumpsters when I do this lol don't worry.
Staying sanitary is my #1 priority so I don't handle garbage when I dash.
My haul in this post is purely curbside pickups using tools to efficiently lessen the load and make haste to my next discovery.
I am happy to show you the most effective way to dive from my perspective and hope this helps others who may be in a similar situation or shed some light on how this should be done.
Introducing my Honda Navi

The Navi is your gateway to two-wheeled freedom and fun. With its effortless twist-and-go automatic transmission, approachable design, and an “are-you-kidding-me?” price, it’s perfect for new riders or anyone craving adventure. Compact, stylish, and always a vibe, this miniMOTO delivers big fun without breaking the bank. -honder
Honestly, I love this bike but there is more storage potential and ease of use with a traditional moped style bike.
If you have ever seen the VidVulture channel he is able to carry a lot of extra scrap from diving on the foot platform where this style of moped doesn't allow that since it is modeled after a motorcycle.
Moped or Minibike?
I have done both and I prefer the minibike for aesthetic and moped for utility.
In order to do this at all you need to have a way to carry stuff around though.
It is totally possible to do this on foot or on a bicycle but you wont be able to haul much of anything like that and even having a moto still cuts you out from being able to haul anything heavy.
Some of the stuff I see but cant haul at all:
- most appliances
- building materials
- furniture
- excersize equipment
Ways around this are to bring a tool to disassemble these into smaller pieces or mark their location and come back with a larger vehicle.
How does one begin to haul stuff around on their moto?
You start with a platform.
The addition of a rear luggage rack makes this a lot easier, but you still need to create a large platform for your storage container.
I made mine out of an old door to a dog crate that I found dumpster diving lol
VidVulture uses plastic storage bins but I recommend using cardboard boxes or even making your own box out of the material that realtors use for yard signage called Coroplast which is a corrugated plastic sheet(much lighter than those bulky bins but easier to break).
As you can see I literally just zip tie the rack on and attaching the box is just as easy.
Two cinch loop belts will work just fine but i have some straps and zip ties holding mine on.
I used to use Velcro to secure the back flap, but I found that it sits fine underneath an excess of the zip tie.
Although I have arrived a few times to my location with it sitting down nothing has ever fallen out due to the incline of the seat.
Coroplast is super easy to clean and keep sanitary so I highly recommend it.
I was initially introduced to this material when I worked at a signage company as a maker and designer.
There isn't a ton of space back here, but I designed this box to be able to carry multiple large pizzas on doordash.
Doordash is more consistent pay than dumpster diving and pet care so I always keep that thing on me.
Pardon the mess haha I was rushing to get out of a sticky living situation on someone else's property.
I can transport this bike in the back of my family van anywhere I feel led to go.
Currently I am in Panama City, Florida looking for opportunities in pet care and marketing.
I will have to get a video about solo loading and unloading at some point.
It isn't extremely easy, but I get better/faster at it every time.
My HAUL so far:
It isn't much but I came up with a decent bit of copper wire and about a dozen aluminum cans.
Scrap value isn't very high on this, but I have some ideas to increase the value and potentially make something useful.
Keep in mind I am mostly door dashing here until next month when the college semester ends and I will be diving into dumpsters fulltime.
I keep my van as a backup for bigger hauls but driving around on the moto is a great way to scout ahead without wasting gas.
Hopefully I will be able to update you guys with a vlog post format in the near future with a ride along in my adventures.
Until then its happy hunting and I hope you all enjoyed this post and found it entertaining and helpful!
