Making machines
In the evening, as in the afternoon, I was busy making an old Mac usable. If you don't read here regularly, then perhaps first read My time jump experiment
I had a Word file that was not readable with LibreOffice 7.3. I was hoping that the old Pages could read it. This led me down a rabbit hole of trying to set up Obsidian and Syncthing for this Mac. Our daughter had wanted to put together a robotic arm for a micro:bit controller. And while she was hoping I would make the assembly instructions accessible in the file, she watched a movie.
I'm telling you all this because I only ate something in between and then, after my success with the Mac, spent the whole night with the kids building with the micro:bit until four in the morning (cover picture). We then went to bed together only early and again I woke up much earlier than expected, although I had once again turned off all the reminder alarms that could have woken me up.
After scraping my tongue, oil pulling and doing qigong, I made myself a hot lemon and continued with my Mac setup, among other things. By the time this report was finished, I could now easily access the old files thanks to Syncthing to hopefully sort them into my Zettelkasten one by one. Before that was done, I continued to accompany my daughter in building the robot arm (picture 2). There were four nuts missing, which prompted us to come to bed the night before to only now get the right nuts from a cellar stash.
We then had a first meal in between, which I once again forgot to supplement. But I made up for it at dinner. The robot project ended up being a bit too extensive, so I tested and corrected the assembly without our daughter. But the device and the collection of parts will surely delight us for explorations here and there over the next few months, if not years.
The day drew to a close as we played another two rounds of Cryptoly together.

Maschinen bauen
Am Abend war ich, wie schon am Nachmittag, damit beschäftigt einen alten Mac nutzbar zu machen. Liest Du hier nicht regelmäßig, dann lies vielleicht erstmal Mein Zeitsprung-Experiment
Es ging mir dabei um eine Word-Datei, die mit LibreOffice 7.3 nicht lesbar war. Ich hoffte, dass das alte Pages sie lesen konnte. Das führte mich in ein Hasenloch, in dem ich Obsidian und Syncthing für diesen Mac einrichten wollte. Unsere Tochter hatte einen Roboter-Arm für eine micro:bit-Steuerung zusammenbauen wollen. Und während sie darauf hoffte, ich würde die Montageanleitung in der Datei zugänglich machen, schaute sie einen Film.
Ich erzähle all das, weil ich zwischendurch nurnoch etwas aß, um dann nach Erfolg mit dem Mac die gesamte Nacht bis morgends um vier die Kids beim Bauen mit dem micro:bit zu begleiten (Titelbild). Wir sind dann früh gemeinsam ins Bett und wieder erwachte ich deutlich früher als erwartet, obwohl ich erneut alle Erinnerungswecker ausgestellt hatte, die mich hätten wecken können.
Nachdem ich meine Zunge geschabt, Öl gezogen hatte und Qigong gemacht hatte, machte ich mir eine heiße Zitrone und setzte unter anderem meine Mac-Einrichtung fort. Als dieser Bericht fertig ist, konnte ich mir dank Syncthing nun leichten Zugang zu den alten Dateien verschaffen, um diese hoffentlich nach und nach in meine Zettelkästen zu sortieren. Bevor das soweit war, begleitete ich meine Tochter auch weiter beim Bau des Roboter-Arms (Bild 2). Es hatten vier Muttern gefehlt, was uns veranlasste, am Vorabend ins Bett zu kommen, um erst jetzt aus einem Keller-Vorrat die passenden Muttern zu besorgen.
Wir hatten dann zwischendurch eine erste Mahlzeit, die ich mal wieder vergaß, zu supplementieren. Doch das holte ich beim Abend essen wieder auf. Das Roboter-Projekt wurde letztlich etwas zu umfangreich, so dass ich die Montage ohne unsere Tochter testete und korrigierte. Doch das Gerät und die Sammlung an Bauteilen wird uns sicher in den nächsten Monaten, wenn nicht Jahren, hier und da für Erkundungen erfreuen.
Der Tag ging zuende, während wir gemeinsam nochmal zwei Runden Cryptoly spielten.
