Nineties Friday! 🎸 1999 (part 2) - Sk8-Punk & Pop-Punk! Sharing & Talking The Punk Records From 1999! Some Hit It Big & Some Were Hidden Gems! Gene Talks Tunes 🎙️ (1999 Sk8 Punk! Ska & Pop Punk)

I said I would limit nineties Friday posts to 5-7 tunes but I ended up taking at least ten this week. This weeks nineties Friday post I focused on the “Punk” bands that released influential records. Some went mainstream huge while others remained hidden gems even though I believe there were definitely songs that should have been hits on these records. It was a weird time where you still had these sk8 punk bands who came from similar scene as 1994 bands like Green Day, Rancid & Offspring. While there was something new happening with some of the new bands like The Ataris , Saves The Day & more where they were even more pop friendly. Blink 182 has one foot in each these words coming off the success of there 1997 song Dammit which was a alternative rock radio hit, now the new 1999 Blink was about to crossover to major pop success, a move the Offspring would be forever jealous of! There’s much to say! Let’s talk an out it below!

The album came out in 1998 but the third single (Kids Aren’t Alright) was released to MTV & radio early 1999. Being the third single off the record it quickly became the best offspring song in a minute. Unlike the ultra pop songs released as singles like Pretty Fly & Get A Job, this track was strait up Punk Rock & Roll!

Band - Offspring
Song - The Kids Aren’t Alright
Album - Americana (1998)

That’s the list of ten! For bonus pick I got a ska song ya! Ska bands and punk bands toured together quite often and the scenes were very much connected. Enjoy this ska tune that I believe could have been a hit!

I’ll also bring ya a second bonus from a band fits in perfect with the above list but was released a couple months into the year 2000 so I didn’t include em. That said they belong so enjoy!
