In this space I will be giving away STARBITS, sharing my experience with a song, telling how I discovered it, and providing interesting information about it. Then I will include several tables with statistics of the Rising Star game.
After I finished going through the hundred songs provided by Spotify that I listened to the most in the last year, I have thought of adding songs of my choice from my "Like" list that has more than 1000 songs. The last song I talked about in my last post was: El Mareo of Bajafondo and Gustavo Cerati.
Nuevos Trapos: Charly Garcia
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Nuevos Trapos of the argentine artist Charly Garcia.
Charly Garcia has become my favorite artist of all genres, as I discovered more of his artwork. I had a very big influence from my mother, who used to listen to Argentine National Rock songs quite often. Legendary Charly songs like “No voy en tren, voy en avion”, “Seminare” and “Peperina” were never missing.
A few years ago, I knew some of Charly Garcia's songs, thanks to my mother's influence, but I wasn't so much internalized by his works. Until one day, out of simple curiosity, I did some research on his most famous songs and I was fascinated. I consider that Charly Garcia has revolutionized Argentine Rock and is the king of the genre, closely followed by Gustavo Cerati.
My favorite Charly Garcia album is “Clics Modernos”. It was recorded in New York at Jimi Hendrix's famous Electric Lady Studios. The album took the name Clics Modernos, because the artist's idea was to change the way of making music in Spanish rock, incorporating new sounds and technologies. Charly wanted to modernize the national rock, using samplers, drum machines and synthesizers that were fashionable in the United States.
The most beautiful thing about the album is that all the songs are hits, there is no filler. From the criticism of the military dictatorship with “Los Dinosaurios” to the beautiful melodies of “Plateado sobre Plateado”.
Charly Garcia was born in 1951 in Buenos Aires. He is one of the most influential musicians of Rock en Español (the best for me). In the 70's, he founded the band Siu Generis with whom he had moderate successes such as Rasguña las piedras and Canción para mi muerte.
In the 80's, after the dissolution of Seru Giran, he started his solo career. His first album Yendo de la cama al living room was quite successful. However, the real continental success was achieved with his second album “Clics Modernos”, released in 1983. Songs like “Los Dinosauros”, “No soy un extraño”, “Nuevos Trapos” and “Ojos de Videotape”.
