At least, the invasion of the territory of what is now Austria, by the Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa Pasha, and the siege of the city of Vienna (1683), are things well recorded by various historical sources.

Also documented by both sides is the defeat of the Ottoman army, which cost the Grand Vizier his head. What I'm not clear about is the point of the bakers' warning… It's possible, but I'm not sure.

It reminds me of a very old story from Rome. Which is said to have once survived a surprise attack due to the scandal created by a flock of Geese who were alerted by deaf men who were advancing silently through the fields to approach.

Thus, it would not be the first time that early detection of the threat constitutes a great contribution to the battle.
